Siaya County under Governor Cornell Amoth Rasanga is now making headlines from a very different dimension; the production of mango wine. The mango wine and juice is being produced by a group of former students who did their internship at the Siaya Agricultural Centre, in Siaya town.

According to Maurine Achieng who is the brain behind the venture, they started by producing mango juice to fetch pocket money but after graduation; no job was coming by, so they decided to venture into wine making.  Ms Achieng holds a degree in Agriculture Enterprise development from Pwani University.

“We use mango peels. That is our main ingredient. After boiling, we ferment using jerry cans for duration of three months then we decant. It is a process which takes upto 8 months,” Achieng told KTN News.

All the process takes place at the Siaya incubation centre with local mango suppliers, transporters, and casual workers earning from the creative venture.
The entire process then delivers mango juice that goes for Sh60 and the sparrow mango fruit wine that goes for Sh1, 000 per bottle.
