Service Providers challenged to develop Commercial Entrepreneurs in Siaya County

4th September 2020

Service providers working with Agriculture Sector Development Support Program Phase II (ASDSP II) have been challenged to act as role models so that knowledge disseminated carries more weight and value.

“Be a player in the sector who understands the challenges and strengths involved in developing an entrepreneurial mindset to farmers”, said the County Executive Committee Member for Agriculture, Food Security, Livestock and Fisheries, Dr. Elizabeth Odhiambo during a review meeting at the Departmental headquarters yesterday. Dr. Odhiambo mentioned that ASDSP II’s operations aren’t restricted to specific areas so as long as the service providers continue to devote themselves to their courses, then its ripples will be felt all over.

The Department’s Chief Officer said that Agriculture is a calling just like being a Doctor so service providers must demonstrate this through their outcome areas.

Dr. Orodi Odhiambo, the Program technical Assistant said that ASDSP is for making millions therefore those who deliberately decide to lag behind will continue to languish in poverty and derail Kenya’s ambition of becoming a middle income economy by 2030.

ASDSP II Coordinator, Mr. Kenneth Owuor expressed his confidence on the team and promised to add more to fill up certain gaps. Mr. Owuor committed to ensure prompt availability of resources to facilitate capacity building to value chain actors.

ASDSP II is funded by Sweden, National & County Governments and the E.U to capacity build and address entrepreneurial skills in three value chains of fish, indigenous chicken and mango.
