Smallholders Horticulture Marketing Programme (SHOMaP):
Programme objectives are to improve farm productivity, incomes and the health and welfare of rural Kenyans by increasing the quality and consumption of fruit and vegetables.

The programme covers eight of Kenya’s 35 horticultural districts. It was designed explicitly as a pilot initiative and will be replicated throughout the country if successful. It targets poor rural households and unemployed and underemployed people in areas of Kenya where horticulture is an important source of income: many poor small-scale farmers in these areas sell a portion of their output on the domestic market.

The programme has invested in value chains and market-derived infrastructure, and has helped improve the supply of inputs and the functioning of marketing chains. Moreover, it has built the capacity of private-sector service providers, government institutions and farmers’ organizations.

Greenhouse Technology; Tomatoes Growing:
This video covers growing of tomatoes within a greenhouse.
A greenhouse (also called a glasshouse) is a building where plants are grown under controlled micro environment. These structures range in size from small sheds to very large buildings. A miniature greenhouse is known as a cold frame.
A greenhouse is a structure with different types of covering materials, such as a glass or plastic roof and frequently glass or plastic walls; it heats up because incoming visible solar radiation (for which the glass is transparent) from the sun is absorbed by plants, soil, and other things inside the building. Air warmed by the heat from hot interior surfaces is retained in the building by the roof and wall.
